Crafted of genuine horsehair — trimmed from the animal in a way that does no harm — this belt is woven or “hitched” to create its striking Western design. Hitching begins by twisting the hairs together to create “pulls” — these pulls are then knotted over a string that is wrapped around a circular dowel. The pattern is created as the string goes around and around. It’s a long, labor-intensive process, so it’s hardly surprising that hitching was first done by prisoners in the American West — men who, of course, had some time on their hands. We’re rather glad we’ve found people who practice the craft but eschew the criminal activity. The belt features genuine leather detail and a brushed pewter finish buckle. Imported.
Originally $485.
